Ranking in one city is hard enough. If your business serves customers in Toronto, Mississauga, Calgary and Vancouver, you need a plan that helps Google understand where you work without creating thin, copy-paste pages. Here is a practical approach.
1. Be clear about how you serve each city
Start by listing every city you serve and how you serve it. Do you have an office or store there, do you visit customers, or do you work remotely? The answer decides which tactics are allowed and useful.
2. One Google Business Profile per real location
Google Business Profiles are for places where you meet customers or where staff work. If you have offices in two cities, each can have its own profile. If you serve a city without a location there, add it as a service area on an existing profile instead of creating a new one.
3. Create location pages that are genuinely useful
A page for each important city can help you rank there, but each page needs real substance:
- Projects or customers you have worked with in that city
- The services you offer there, and any local differences
- Local details such as the areas you cover and how to reach you
- Reviews from customers in that city
Pages that only swap the city name are seen as low quality and can hold the whole site back.
4. Think about French-speaking customers
If you serve Quebec or other French-speaking communities, content in French can make a real difference, both for customers and for search. Plan it as proper translated content rather than automatic translation.
5. Collect reviews city by city
Reviews that mention the service and the area help both customers and search engines. Ask customers in each city for a review and reply to all of them.
6. Build local mentions
Local directories, chambers of commerce, industry associations, sponsorships and local news coverage all tell Google that your business is active in a city. Keep your name, address and phone number consistent in every listing.
7. Track rankings and leads per city
Use Google Search Console to see which cities and pages bring impressions and clicks, and tag your enquiry forms and phone numbers so you know which city each lead comes from. Put more effort into the cities that bring customers.
In short
- Map every city you serve and how you serve it
- One Google Business Profile per real location, service areas for the rest
- Useful location pages with local projects and reviews
- French content where your customers need it
- Reviews, local listings and tracking for each city
